What we do.
We help organisations build amazing devices with open source software.
We do this by;
- Providing design, engineering, integration and support services from a knowledgeable and experienced team
- Investing in research and development to further mobile and embedded Linux
- Supporting, contributing to and building open source software communities
Open source software gives manufacturers unique power and flexibility, zero royalty costs and a fast time to market. With years of experience in open source development for mobile and consumer embedded devices, our expertise enables customers to make the right decisions, and to use open source most effectively.
We are an adaptable and creative team, able to tackle a wide range of projects. Whether it’s modifications and support for the software we’ve written, an entire device platform, or a research concept for a new device or user experience, we can provide the support, development, or training to suit each project.
Since 2002 we have successfully worked with a wide range of companies to create amazing devices with our software and services. Such customers include; Nokia, Intel, One Laptop Per Child, OpenMoko, Access, STMicroelectronics and Vernier.
Please contact us to discuss your project’s requirements.
How we do it.
We focus on building software platforms with the following technologies:
- Linux Kernel (ARM & x86)
- Core GNU tools for the embedded Linux platform
- User interfaces and application frameworks based on the GNOME Mobile platform, including the X Window System, GTK+, Matchbox, DBus, and GStreamer
- Next generation user interfaces built on OpenGL ES
OpenedHand professional services provide integration, engineering, user experience design, R&D partnerships, community building, support and training based on these core technologies. Our in depth knowledge of the entire software stack, everything from the silicon to the screen, gives our clients the confidence and security to rely on our services.
In addition, from our R&D work, we’ve developed a number of projects to improve the the Linux embedded experience, such as Matchbox, Poky, Pimlico, Clutter, and GUPnP. We work with clients on integrating, improving and tailoring these projects to a specific use case, device, or platform.
